The NABST was launched in April 2021 as a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) non-profit public foundation. Our organization is dedicated to supporting and cultivating Black STEM educators through professional learning, research and innovation. We also pledge our commitment to promoting, inspiring, and fusing STEM education for all Pre K-12 students to help strengthen their academic outcomes. NABST promotes a nationwide leadership faculty of Black STEM teachers through education and innovation to augment and elevate effective science teaching and learning in a complex and evolving educational environment.
The future and promise of education lie in the hands of educators. As teachers, we inform how students learn. What we teach them, as well, resounds in the actions beyond our classroom. In and of themselves, teachers need to have spaces of safety, opportunities to stretch their knowledge, areas of reset and recovery, and, most of all, the circle of community in which to engage.
We champion STEM-focused teaching and learning centered on the humanity and well-being of Black people, supporting and conducting research rooted in justice and cultural responsiveness to improve professional development, curriculum, and educational practices.
We support the retention of Black STEM educators. We provide a supportive and inclusive community for Black STEM educators to convene and collaborate globally as they work to strengthen their identity as STEM educators.
Through our programs, we facilitate timely and highly relevant professional learning that promotes mentorship, sponsorship, and fellowship.
We commit to addressing systemic disparities in STEM education by helping organizations address the persistent and complex racial barriers in STEM education recruitment.
